(01) — The story
A high alpine lake ringed by nomad yurts, wild horses and silence — Central Asia at its most elemental.
At 3,016 metres, Song-Köl is only reachable in summer, when herders move their families and horses to the lakeside pastures. There is no electricity, no signal and nothing to do but ride, walk and drink fermented mare’s milk with your hosts.
Why we love it
We sleep in felt yurts, travel by horse between camps and end the journey in Bishkek’s Osh Bazaar with a plov cooking class.
