(01) — The story
The oldest desert on the planet: copper dunes, ghost towns and a coast where the sand meets the sea.
The Namib has been dry for 55 million years and it shows: dunes 300 metres high glow orange at sunrise, and the dead camelthorn trees of Deadvlei stand as they have for nine centuries.
Why we love it
We fly between remote camps in a light aircraft, climb Big Daddy before dawn and drive the Skeleton Coast, where shipwrecks rust quietly and desert lions walk the beach.
